Tripping the imagination
12 March 2008
For two afternoons last week I ran writing workshops
in the picture gallery at Temple Newsam House. It
felt such a privilege to be working there among
the family portraits with views overlooking the
magnificent park. Temple Newsam was given
to Leeds City Council in 1922 by the family who
had owned it for centuries. And Leeds have
been terrific guardians of a most beautiful
great house in a wonderful setting. The
school group on Thursday and the adult group on
Sunday produced imaginative and high quality
writing, inspired by our surroundings. It
makes me realise that moving out of our usual
grooves can trip our imagination in new and
exciting ways. I can't wait to go back and
run more workshops there!!
