At the splendid Civic Gallery in Barnsley from the 13th October is an exhibition from artist Liz West who grew up in the town. Entitled Colour Field, it runs all the way through to December and includes Our Spectral Vision, which was originally commissioned by Natural History Museum, London and Our Colour Wheel; a project that explores the different perceptions of colour by people from various backgrounds and occupations. The exhibition will also feature a newly commissioned site-specific work.
I was delighted to be asked by curators Jason White and David Sinclair to submit my own poet’s colour wheel. I realised that colour features heavily in my writing as a way of accessing feelings and experiences as well as examining the natural world about me. It seemed appropriate to include on my wheel a poem that is full of colour from my forthcoming collection which will be published in October.
