Being the lead judge [along with marvellous poets Wendy Pratt and Mathew Hedley Stoppard] of the East Riding Poetry Competition for the last ten years or so, comes with many benefits, and I’ll write more about the competition in April’s post after the prize giving  ceremony in Goole.

One of the rewards of being involved with the competition is the meeting with new poets, the sense of camaraderie, and the forging of connections with prize-winners and poetry lovers;  it is a remarkable experience.  Amanda came to the Poetry Palooza in Bridlington North Library a couple of years ago to perform and I was struck by her courage and honesty, the directness and rawness of her words, and her presence in the room.

She has a new collection out.  And it’s a powerful read. She is a warrior poet who takes no prisoners, unafraid to show vulnerability and strength.

There are some remaining chances to see her read across the North [see below].  I urge you to go and see this terrific writer and friend.
